The government has initiated digital crop surveys in 12 states

The government has launched a digital crop survey on a pilot basis in 12 states, as informed in the Parliament. In an effort to gather better sowing data, the central government has initiated a pilot project for Digital Crop Survey (DCS) in 12 states starting from the Kharif (summer sowing) season of this year. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated this in a written response in the Lok Sabha.

The Minister mentioned that the pilot for DCS has been launched in the selected 12 states, which are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Odisha, Assam, and Telangana. The selection of states has been made based on preparations in relation to pre-expected criteria for DCS. Tomar stated, "The objective of the project is to create a single and verified source of truth about the figures of harvested crops, which is useful for accurate estimation of crop areas and for developing farmer-centric solutions."
