In Punjab, there is hope that a comprehensive agricultural policy will be launched on October 16, 2023, on the occasion of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur's birth anniversary. This announcement was made by Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian. The announcement came during a consultation meeting held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) where key stakeholders gathered to discuss "Crop Residue Management.
The roots of the upcoming agricultural policy in Punjab lie in the commitment made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan in January. He pledged to formulate an agricultural policy for the state and established a special committee of 11 experts under the leadership of former Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal for this purpose. It was promised that this new policy would be ready by March 31.
During a media briefing, it was confirmed that the policy has cautiously incorporated the suggestions and ideas of farmers and think tanks. The primary objective of this upcoming policy is to provide significant benefits to farmers while emphasizing water conservation and environmental protection.
