Heavy rainfall continues to wreak havoc in several states across the country, leading to rising river levels and creating flood-like conditions in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 22 to August 24. Additionally, parts of Uttarakhand weather, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Coastal Karnataka are expected to experience heavy downpours on August 22.
The IMD has also issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of the Northeastern states, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next 24 hours.
According to the weather forecast, several coastal states, including areas near the Gulf of Mannar, Sri Lanka's coast, and regions bordering the Southwest and Southeast Bay of Bengal, are expected to experience adverse weather conditions with wind speeds ranging from 35-45 kmph on August 22. Meanwhile, the coastal regions of Goa and Karnataka, as well as the western coast of the West-Central and Southwest Arabian Sea, could see wind speeds of 45-55 kmph.
The IMD reported that the heaviest rainfall on August 21 was recorded in parts of Lakshadweep and Tripura. Additionally, parts of Eastern Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat also witnessed significant rainfall.
